A Quick Phone Call

I saw a post recently from an old colleague and I couldn't agree more.

Working in recruitment, we speak with candidates and clients everyday. The market can move quickly, particularly when projects are ramping up. As we know, the demand for a skilled workforce is very high at present. Back and forth emails, LinkedIn messages and texts rarely tell the full story.

A short phone call will almost always work better.

Why?

It saves both of us time. What can take 20 back-and-forth messages can often be sorted in one short conversation.

In just a few minutes we can quickly understand things like:

  • What your motivations and career drivers are.
  • The type of projects you enjoy working on.
  • Location, travel flexibility or site based vs hybrid expectations.
  • Your availability, notice period or current project commitments.
  • Why now might be the right time for a move.
  • Salary expectations and where you currently stand in the market.

These are conversations that are too difficult to capture properly over messages.

A quick call also helps ensure we are matching the right people to the right projects, rather than just sending another CV across.

Our clients expect it too.

Being able to clearly talk through your technical experience and project involvement gives clients confidence when considering candidates.

A short call allows us to represent your experience properly rather than relying purely on your CV and a few back and forth messages.

The same applies when working with clients.

Quick calls are just as important when partnering with hiring managers and TA teams.

When onboarding a role or support a project or short conversation helps us quickly align on:

  • The exact profile needed.
  • Project timelines and priorities
  • Interview availability and feedback.
  • Changes in hiring plans.
  • Market conditions and candidate availability.

These conversations keep things moving quickly which is critical when strong candidates can often be involved in multiple processes at the same time.

Sometimes the most effective tool we have is still the simplest one - A quick phone call.
