Head of Automation - Limerick
The Head of Automation will lead and manage the technical team responsible for delivering automation and system integration projects. This role ensures the successful design, engineering, documentation, and implementation of automation solutions in compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
The position requires strong leadership, extensive technical expertise in automation, and effective coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve project success. A key aspect of the role involves developing and expanding the customer base in collaboration with the Sales Manager.

Leadership & Management
The Head of Automation will lead and manage the technical team responsible for delivering automation and system integration projects. This role ensures the successful design, engineering, documentation, and implementation of automation solutions in compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
The position requires strong leadership, extensive technical expertise in automation, and effective coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve project success. A key aspect of the role involves developing and expanding the customer base in collaboration with the Sales Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of automation, mechatronic, and electrical engineers.
- Ensure company procedures, workflows, and engineering standards are consistently followed for efficiency and quality.
- Monitor team performance and provide opportunities for technical and professional development.
- Identify, pursue, and develop new business opportunities.
- Oversee the recruitment and onboarding of new team members as required.
- Review, validate, and approve automation system designs, control system architectures, and PLC/HMI/SCADA programming deliverables.
- Ensure all solutions comply with relevant standards and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with project managers, site teams, and procurement to align technical deliverables with project schedules and budgets.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and technology partners to resolve technical challenges and ensure system compatibility.
- Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs), hardware/software specifications, and integration strategies.
- Manage and document design changes, revisions, and client-approved modifications.
- Ensure all system designs meet client specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), Site Acceptance Tests (SATs), and provide support during commissioning.
- Implement quality control measures, risk assessments, and cybersecurity considerations in all designs.
- Maintain accurate and complete project documentation in line with company procedures.
- Provide regular technical progress reports, forecasts, and risk assessments to senior management.
