Robotics Project Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced Robotics Project Engineer to join their global robotics and automation team, supporting new-build programmes and international site projects. This role combines project engineering, project management and technical leadership. You will identify robotics opportunities, define requirements and business cases, assess technology options and lead projects from concept through implementation.

You will act as the system-level technical owner, providing technical direction and challenging vendor solutions, while external system integrators deliver detailed design, programming and system build.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead robotics and automation projects from concept through implementation and startup.
• Manage project scope, schedule, budget, risks, stakeholders and external delivery partners.
• Define operational requirements, project scope, success criteria and technical deliverables.
• Identify and assess robotics opportunities and develop business cases covering productivity, capacity, efficiency, safety and compliance.
• Evaluate robotics solutions including industrial robots, cobots, AMRs, machine vision and automation technologies.
• Assess technology feasibility, limitations, integration requirements, risks and scalability.
• Select and manage system integrators, equipment suppliers and technology partners.
• Review and challenge vendor proposals, technical concepts and implementation plans.
• Lead proof-of-concept projects and assess results to determine future investment.
• Work with global and site teams to develop the long-term robotics and automation project pipeline.
• Build alignment across technical, operational and commercial stakeholders, often without direct authority.
• Support project documentation, risk assessments and compliance/validation activities where required.
• Travel internationally to support projects and site activities.

Requirements

• Experience in project engineering, project management, applications engineering, manufacturing engineering, product management or technical sales within robotics/automation.
• Strong working knowledge of industrial robotics, collaborative robots, AMRs, machine vision and automation technologies.
• Experience translating operational requirements into technical solutions and project deliverables.
• Proven experience managing system integrators, suppliers or technology partners.
• Strong project management, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
• Ability to operate effectively in complex, evolving environments and drive projects without direct authority.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, manufacturing, logistics or laboratory environments.
• Knowledge of GMP, ISO, FDA requirements and IQ/OQ/PQ validation.
• Experience with greenfield/new-build projects and site startups.
• Experience leading robotics proof-of-concept projects.
• International and multicultural project experience.
