Occupational Health Nurse

We are currently recruiting an experienced Occupational Health Nurse on a contract basis for our client, a leading regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation in Sligo. This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered General Nurse with industrial Occupational Health experience to join a busy, highly regulated manufacturing environment and provide a comprehensive occupational health service to employees across the site.


The Role:

The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for the delivery of occupational health services, supporting employee health and wellbeing while ensuring compliance with company procedures, occupational health standards and relevant Irish and EU legislation. The successful candidate will work closely with HR, EHS, Occupational Physicians, external healthcare providers and employees to deliver effective health surveillance, workplace health assessments, rehabilitation and wellbeing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver a comprehensive Occupational Health service to employees across the site.
• Coordinate and complete employee occupational health surveillance in line with company procedures and relevant legislation.
• Assess and interpret occupational health assessment results and determine appropriate follow-up or referral.
• Conduct health assessments including audiometry, spirometry and vision screening.
• Provide assessment and appropriate treatment/referral for workplace injuries and occupational illnesses.
• Support absence management, return-to-work and rehabilitation programmes.
• Liaise with Occupational Physicians, GPs and external occupational health providers as required.
• Support pre-employment medical assessments.
• Work closely with EHS to identify employees requiring health surveillance and support occupational health risk assessments.
• Support the site in maintaining appropriate first-aid coverage across all shifts.
• Deliver or support delivery of manual handling training.
• Support employee wellbeing initiatives and develop health promotion activities appropriate to the site workforce.
• Provide health and travel advice to employees undertaking international business travel.
• Carry out intoxicant screening and associated chain-of-custody procedures as required.
• Maintain accurate and confidential employee medical records in accordance with company procedures and applicable legislation.
• Support internal and external audits and regulatory inspections as required.
• Maintain a strong focus on confidentiality, compliance, quality and professional standards.
• Work collaboratively with HR, EHS, management and other stakeholders to address occupational health issues and support employee wellbeing.
• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement within the Occupational Health service.

Essential Requirements:

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current registration with NMBI / An Bord Altranais.
• 2–3 years' relevant industry experience.
• Proven experience delivering Occupational Health services within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in occupational health surveillance.
• Experience working within a regulated manufacturing environment; pharmaceutical, medical device or similarly regulated industries would be highly relevant.
• Strong understanding of occupational health, employee wellbeing and workplace health risks.
• Experience working collaboratively with HR and EHS teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience managing occupational health incidents, escalations and employee cases.
• Experience contributing to or conducting occupational health risk assessments.
